The resource consists of thirty-five
colour cards, including a 'Categories'
card to explain the information given
in each section of the cards. The
cards should be printed double-sided.
On the front of the card is a simple
cartoon-style image to illustrate
the job, together with the following
information:
- Description
- Qualifications
- Importance of science
- Training
The reverse of the card has further
information in the form of guidance
scales for the following categories:
- Salary
- Number of jobs
- Working with people
- Travel opportunity
- Conditions

The cards can be used to play a Top
Trumps style game. Pupils take it
in turn to nominate a category in
which their card scores highly. If
their value beats their opponent's,
they win the card. This continues
for each successive card until one
player has won all the cards and hence
the game.
Alternatively, the cards should be
placed face down, so that the job
titles and descriptions are not visible.
Pupils select five cards that appeal
to them most using the category information
on the reverse side, before turning
the cards over to find out which jobs
they have selected. The aim of this
activity is to encourage pupils to
consider more widely the factors that
contribute to selecting career paths
and future qualification routes.

ASE is very grateful to Chrystal
Edwards and Stephanie Beal, pupils
at Minsthorpe Community College, and
their teacher Robert Tudor, for sending
us an addition to the Top Science
space cards set on the Is there
life? CD ROM. Their card has been
produced in the same format as the
original set. You can print it off
here and add it to your collection.
Well done Chrystal and Stephanie,
and many thanks for sending in your
card.
