Science centres around the country

These are just a few of the ongoing events around the UK that link well with 'Is there life?' The science centre details included here do not cover all the exhibits that each centre can offer. There are many local events which you can publicise through the Science Year website www.scienceyear.com


Cheshire

The Museum of the Chemical Industry. 'Scientrific' has over 30 hands-on interactive exhibits. The 'Crazy Changes' theme weeks in December 2001 and June 2002 focus on Materials and their properties.

Bristol

Exhibits include the 'Move it' gallery, celebrating human inventions that have harnessed the power of nature. Facilities at the centre include an Imax theatre.

Glasgow

Includes interactive exhibits focusing on physical skills, light, electricity and magnetism, and planetary processes. Planetarium and astronomy shows will be featured in the Space Theatre. Facilities at the centre include an Imax theatre.

Play virtual volleyball in outer space in the 'Life Arcade' and experience the world's longest motion simulator ride at 'Lifelab'.

London

The wide range of exhibits includes 'Earth - today and tomorrow' and 'Earth Lab', investigating the impressive diversity of British geology. Pupils are actively encouraged to examine specimens at 'Investigate', a purpose built, state of the art laboratory setting. Until April 2002 events to complement the special 'Predators' exhibit will be on-going.

East Sussex

Previously home to the Royal Greenwich Observatory, now housing hands-on exhibits including 'Force and Gravity', 'Time Exhibition' and 'Earth Dome'. The renovated telescopes are available for school groups.
